2010 Hunting Season Reflections

For 2010 we saw a large and healthy population of turkeys. This property has always been loaded with birds and this year was no exception. The hunts we did, helped us to determine the roosting sites the birds use, as well as the fields and best locations to set up and call. Overall it was a very exciting spring.

As far as the deer season went, a young man by the name of Mackenzie Hess harvested his first buck opening morning of Rifle Season. We saw a ton more deer this year than previous years. Probably more than the previous 4 years combined. It was obvious the food plots are paying big dividends, especially the 6 areas of corn we put in this year. They really hit it hard and as mid January 2011 there is still some left to help them get the through the winter. As many as 10 does were observed feeding in one ¾ area corn patch one evening. The bucks remand elusive but thanks to our Bushnell game camera, a nice 7 pointer was captured on Nov 10th. We then again saw him in late December so he survived the season. In addition, a very large spike buck survived along with a smaller one. So with all the deer and these known bucks surviving, 2011 promises to be a better year.

Food Plot wise we are planning on planting about the same acreage of corn but will be planting other varieties of food plot as well.
